Goa

Goa

We arrived into a over-cast drizzly small airport which looked as though it had been built a very long time ago. The atmosphere was remarkably different to Mumbai, it is more tourist orientated so everyone speaks English and it's so much less mental than Mumbai.

The Indian people are lovely - so polite and friendly. it was a 45min drive to our hotel and we were pleasantly surprised to find our Soul Vacation Spa Resort look near enough to what the Internet promised (which appears to be rare!). We had a nice meal down the road from the hotel. I don't know why it is but on route we noticed everyone just dumps rubbish where ever they wish (there is no order).

On Monday my BDAY we relaxed after all our travelling - didn't want to get too stressed!!  So we relaxed by the pool and the sun was shining.  It was so hot we could only last two and half hours in the sun. In the afternoon we went for a stroll to the India's 2nd largest beach Colva. The sand was nice but as soon as we stepped on the beach a gang of 15 teenagers saw us ( pale White folk) and instantly decided they would love a picture with us (guess it won't be the last time). So after being completely surrounded we quickly did a u-turn to the high street (aka a collection of huts/buildings made of mud and tin roofing) but only after Sara got in a photo with a few local kids!

Tuesday we went on a tour of South Goa. This district is beautiful and really green. The tour bus we were on was old and rickety. On the bus we were the only foreign nationals. Some of the passengers were completely intoxicated which was rather strange. The first stop was to an ancient house = 200 years old.  There was a charge to take pictures. We saw the two famous temples and in one they were chanting and getting high on burning herbal flowers on a fire. We also saw the " Rome of Asia" Inside old Goa is a series of churches within a square mile similar to the vatican in Rome. In the oldest of the churches are the remains of St Francis which are kept in a coffin with glass on the side so you can see his 198 year old body (freaky). Really beautiful churches feel alot more religious now! Our final stop was to the waterfront where we walked down a local pier. As we walked we could hear the noise behind us increasing and at the end of the pier we turned around only to find that tonnes of locals had gathered and followed us down the pier to request more photographs. It was hilarious. We agreed to a good few and then eventually just had to say no. As soon as we said no though they politely nodded and left us alone. Pretty crazy!

Today were are on a plane to Trivandrum Kerala to cruise on the backwaters and lap up the sun. our plane is like a little toy I got when I was a child ie 2 years ago. late departure due to technical difficulty (a wheel fell off). So we are off on the same plane now it's fixed. On one of three flights today to reach our destination. Hope all is well with Ireland and we beat England on Saturday!
