We hopped on a bullet train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong and I was pretty excited about being upstairs on the train - what? It was cool! We said goodbye to Chinas mainland and I am so glad we included it in our trip we really had an amazing time but my tummy is ready to move onto new food!!!!

We arrived in Hong Kong late at night and made our way to our home for the next five nights....a little place known as Chunking Mansions. We were staying in Kowloon the most densely populated area in the world. So we weren't exactly expecting the best accommodation but what we arrived to was pretty...interesting. The tiny lifts are so painfully slow that you have to wait in a queue to hop on board and they only take seven people at a time. The ground floor is dark and wet and full of Indian men trying to sell fake bags and watches. When we arrived on our floor we had to squeeze our way into the reception area and our room...well it did the job! It's not too bad but it certainly makes you want to get up and out in the mornings : )

Hong Kong is very cool though there's no doubt about it. We met up each evening with Phil from college, makes the world feel small when you are meeting up with friends in Hong Kong. We walked down to the harbour front in the evening to witness the light show across Victoria Harbour. Standing there looking across the water at all the skyscrapers is pretty awesome it has to be said. What's even better though is that every night for twenty minutes all the skyscrapers take part in a synchronised laser and light display to loud music. It is a bizarre demonstration that shows just how much money is in Hong Kong!! They are also the proud home of the worlds longest escalator : ) it is outdoors and brought us up a hill, across some roads and past many streets full of bars. It was a bit weird but kinda cool too.If you are feeling lazy its great though. Imagine stepping out to get work each day and just standing on a moving path/escalator that brings you right there? Hilarious.

One afternoon we hopped on the metro over to one of the other islands in Hong Kong where we could get a cable car up and across mountains to visit a giant buddah. The cable cars themselves were the best bit, ours had a glass bottom and they go up very high and across water so they was some scary but terrific scenery. All in all we really enjoyed Hong Kong and it's giant malls and normal food, but we won't miss the constant offers for fake bags and watches. Nor will we miss our mini accommodation : ) In Bangkok now waiting to meet up with our tour group for our trip to Cambodia, exciting!!!
