Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville is one of Cambodia's top beach resorts and is a welcome change from cities. The sun was shinning for the two days we were here. Our hotel was five minutes walk from the beach and had a pool.  There was a nice beach with a strip of bars and restaurants overlooking an amazing view out over the ocean.  It reminded me of Phi Pi in Thailand. We relaxed the first day and after our BBQ dinner we headed for a night club on the beach front. The cheap alcohol was too good to turn down and we partyed into the small hours of the morning. 

The next day we went on a boat tour to Bamboo Island first stopping off to go snorkelling. Just before we jumped in our guide informed us that there are alot of jellyfish in the water but if/when they sting you all it would feel like would be a mild itchy feeling.  The water was clear and warm and there were hundreds of fish swimming around us. We arrived at Bamboo Island and the view from the boat was seriously cool. The beach was practically empty with the view to the surrounding islands making it amazing.  Sara and myself remembered our Inida experience with sunburn and were determined not to get caught out which we managed bar my right foot! We were the lucky ones with other members of the group more resembling a piece of fried bacon.  The two beaches we visited were amazing and it was so nice to unwind after all our travels (anyone have any sympathy?). To access one of the beaches we had to walk through the jungle to other side of the island for 20 minutes in the heat which was cool and we saw all manner of creatures along the way. The beach was amazing and the water was so warm we stayed in the sea for over an hour, my fingers looked like dried prunes when we got out. 

Now we're off on two days of long buses to get to Ho Chi Min city Vietnam. Even though this has been a short ten day tour through Cambodia, the people are very friendly and remarkably strong for living in peace next to the soliders of the Khmer Rouge who were given amnesty. The country has not a tourist magnet yet but it will be !
